Airtel will now change per second basis to all its Prepaid Customers Nationwide

image

Airtel has announced that it will start moving all its prepaid mobile customers nationally to per second billing plan starting from today. This will be more affordable compared to per minute plan and ensure that customers pay only for the time they use, says the company. The new plan will be rolled out under new Pay For What You Use initiative.

Most of the Airtel prepaid mobile customers are already on the per second billing plan, but the company aims to ensure that all the prepaid customers are moved to per second plan. Even though customer’s standard base rate plans are shifted to a pulse rate of per second, they can opt for additional tariff discount packs of their choice for discounted per sec or per minute benefits.

Commenting on the new initiative, Ajai Puri, Director – Market Operations, Bharti Airtel (India & South Asia) said:

Our customers are the reason for us to be in business, we therefore constantly introduce innovative initiatives with a commitment to deliver a world class experience to them. While we continue to invest aggressively in our network quality and deploy new sites to further enhance our robust & wide network presence, as yet another token measure of our commitment we are today taking the lead to move our customers to the affordable per second plans ensuring that they pay only for what they use.

Nokia to enter Smartphone Business

image

Nokia has officially confirmed that is entering the smartphone business and is seeking for a partner. The Finnish smartphone maker will license its brand to a partner that can manufacture and sell phones as well as provide marketing and customer support.

“The right path back to mobile phones for Nokia is through a brand-licensing model. That means identifying a partner that can be responsible for all of the manufacturing, sales, marketing and customer support for a product.”

said Nokia Technologies spokesman Robert Morlino in a statement.

Nokia said that as it sold its Devices and Services division to Microsoft, it will not be able to produce any Nokia branded phone until Q4, 2016. The company is looking for a ‘world class’ partner that will be responsible for the aforementioned aspects of smartphone business. After selling its business to Microsoft, Nokia launched a new brand-licensed tablet computer –N1 produced under license by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn last year in November.

The latest news comes from Nokia a month after it announced its plans to design and license handsets from next year. Nokia was at the helm of mobile phone market until it faced a tough competition from Android and iPhone. It will be interesting to see, what the company known for its classic feature phones has to offer in the effervescent smartphone market. Unfortunately, we will have to wait till the end of next year.

Google Web Light will load pages faster on mobile

image

Google announced last week that it will improve users mobile search experience in India by faster loading of pages.

Google Web Light which is an internal name of the new feature, optimizes websites for 4x faster loading and 80% less data consumption that will result in 50% more page views. The video shows how fast the optimized websites load on a slow internet connection. These faster optimized pages help publishers and advertisers reach new audiences. In addition, a link to the original page will always be available, so users can still choose to view that version.

Targeted especially at emerging markets with slow internet speed, the feature is being tested in Indonesia currently. Soon, it is expected to hit other countries like India and Brazil.
