BSNL Subscribers can now carry forward unused data

image

Earlier we had reported BSNL plans to stop data carry forward facility in prepaid. In view of response received from nodal centers, BSNL has withdrawn earlier order and decided to allow carry forward of unutilized data on data STV recharges.

BSNL subscribers can now carry forward unused data by doing a recharge with a data STV before end of validity of the current plan. This will be a huge relief for subscribers who are not able to use up full data benefit before validity expires. Currently Reliance and Docomo are other operators supporting data carry forward facility.

BSNL has recently introduced 1GB 3G data at just Rs 68, but the validity was just 10 days. The carry forward facility will enable subscribers to extend their data further before end of 10 days validity. Subscribers can now enjoy 3GB data a month for just Rs 204, if recharged with Rs 64 x 3 times a month.

Reliance offering IPL special bonus data

image

After the success of its world cup special bonus data offering where Rcom gave extra data on select recharges (on specific days when India played) and credited data based on the number of runs scored by team India, it has now launched the same offer with new packaging of IPL and offers an even sweeter deal with the bonus being 3MB per run scored by the winning team. The new offering ensures that the subscriber is always at the receiving end irrespective of which team wins, since the higher score is considered when crediting the bonus data.

image

The offer is valid for 2G data in all circles and for 3G data in the 13 circles where Rcom has 3G licence. The denominations of recharges on which the offer is available vary from circle to circle and are visible in the chart below. The bonus data will be calculated with respect to the outcome of the match on the day on which the subscriber does the recharge.

The lowest denomination recharge qualifying for the offer is Rs. 45 in Kolkata and West Bengal circle which offers 500MB 2G data valid for 7 days. This is indeed a good offering and the best part is that the subscriber can get the extra data now and carry the unused portion forward to the following months by recharging regular data packs before the validity of current data balance expires.

Uninor offering free Uunlimited access to Wikipedia for 3 Months

image

Uninor announced free access to Wikipedia for its Internet subscribers on their mobile devices. With this offer, Internet users of Uninor will be able to access Wikipedia – the largest collection of free knowledge ever assembled with no data charges. As part of the programme, Uninor employees will engage with students and teachers to spread awareness on digital literacy with special focus on Wikipedia in the rural areas.

“By giving free access to Wikipedia, Uninor will be able to put this repository of knowledge in the hands of the masses and empower the society. The partnership will unleash the true potential of the Internet by giving access to unlimited information to our Internet users,” said Vivek Sood, CEO, Telewings Communications Services Pvt. Ltd. (Uninor).

“It is in line with our Internet for All strategy and an extension of our Sabse Sasta proposition for relevant content for the mass market. The free access to Wikipedia will spread the magic of knowledge and is a testimony to our efforts towards bringing affordable Internet within easy reach of all our customers.”

In 2012, Telenor committed to bring Wikipedia to its customers free of data charges through a partnership with the Wikimedia Foundation. Following the agreement, free access to Wikipedia on mobile phones has been launched in Telenor Business units in Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and Montenegro.

With the introduction of free Wikipedia and more such services in the pipeline, Uninor plans to have 50% of its users on Internet by 2017. The free access to Wikipedia will be available for three months starting April 1, 2015.

Last year, Uninor had introduced service-based plans for Facebook and WhatsApp for its subscribers. The disruptive product innovation brought a paradigm shift by charging customers for the services rendered rather than the amount of data consumed.
