Nokia-Microsoft Deal To be Completed by April 25th

image

Nokia and Microsoft had already received green light for the merger from the European Commission and the US Department of Justice long ago and the Chinese regulatory authorities also gave their approval for the merging of Nokia with Microsoft just a few days ago.

Microsoft has now officially announced that they have completed all the steps necessary to finalize the acquisition of the Nokia Devices and Services business. The transaction will be completed on April 25.

Meanwhile, there have been some adjustments to the original deal and the new agreement will now allow Microsoft to manage online assets of Nokia that include nokia.com domain and other social media sites.

While the original offer had all the employees in Nokia’s Chief Technology Office continuing with Nokia, that has been adjusted and now all 21 employees in China will join Microsoft. Lastly, the acquisition included the Nokia’s Korean manufacturing facility, but the deal will complete without Microsoft taking control over it.

It took more than 7 months to complete the acquisition after Microsoft broke the news, but nevertheless it’s finally done!

IPL 2014 has just kicked off, and with plenty of matches lined up over the next few weeks, you’ll want to keep a check on all the cricketing action. Between work, long commutes and everything in between, it isn’t possible to catch all the matches on TV. Fortunately, there are a bevy of IPL apps available across mobile platforms, which will keep you updated with live scores, commentary, analysis and even live-streams right on your smartphone or tablet, regardless of where you are. We’ve chosen the five most unique apps available, so you can pick your favourite. Sit back, relax and let the games begin.

1. BCCI (Android. IOS. Windows Phone)

The official BCCI app has been reimagined for IPL 2014, and brings with it an improved user interface and tablet optimisation. While it doesn’t provide a live stream of matches, it does feature a live score card with commentary, along with Hawk Eye analysis. The app is brimming with features, including the latest news, announcements, interviews, match reports, video highlights and popular photos. It also has a ‘Venues’ tab, which displays information about IPL cricket stadiums and which matches are scheduled to be played in each.

2.CriBol (Android)

A tiny app with a simple interface, CriBol provides live scores and information on match turning points at a glance. However, its USP is its voice notification system, which vocalises all the action, giving users a touch-free way to stay updated with the score. This is especially useful when you’re driving, working or can’t look at your phone. CriBol also has WhatsApp and Facebook integration, letting you share the current score via messages or status updates.

3. StarSports.com (Android IOS)

The official StarSports.com app covers more than just cricket, but has a dedicated tab for IPL 2014. You can live-stream matches from within the app, although you’ll require a subscription to do so. Without a subscription, you can still access live scores and game analysis. In addition, you can check out video highlights and replays, match fixtures, results, news articles and features. The app also has a ‘Video Timeline’ feature, letting you pause and replay the major moments of a match.

Don’t be fooled by its ridiculous name – CricketWallah CricAlarm is actually a very useful app. It sends you customised notifications for specific events in a match, which you can configure yourself. From the CricAlarm section, you can choose to be notified when a specific player in a team comes on to bat or bowl. You can also trigger alerts according to a specified number of overs batted, wickets taken/down, runs scored, etc. In addition, the app also shows you the live score.
