BSNL To invest Rs 7,000 crore in setting up integrated 3G,4G WiFi hotspots across India

BSNL the largest PSU telecom operator which is the national Broadband backbone of India has declared that it will be investing Rs. 7000 crore in setting up integrated 3G, 4G wifi hotspots across the country over the next 3 years. BSNL subscribers will be able to transition seamlessly between 3G 4G cellular network and the wifi hotspots which will work for offloading the data from the cellular network.

“Wifi is an obvious choice for BSNL going forward but it alone cannot be successful. It has to be integrated with 3G, 4G network so that customer can be seamlessly transferred to wifi. In two to three years, we will be investing Rs 7,000 crore to set up integrated wifi across the country,” Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL Anupam Shrivatava said while speaking at TeleAnalysis event.

We had earlier shared how BSNL is setting up hotspots at 10 monuments across the country, now it will be extending its reach to more tourist spots and plans on adding 2500 wifi hotspots by the end of the current financial year. In addition to this, BSNL has also partnered with QuadGen Wireless for setting up wifi hotspots under a revenue share model.

“BSNL is in best position to provide instant bandwidth. We will set up wifi hotspots and BSNL will provide bandwidth for it. We are committed to set up 1,000 wifi hotspots by June and another 5,000 by end of this year,” QuadGen Wireless Founder and Chairman C S Rao said. BSNL plans on expanding its coverage in the south and west zones through its partnership with QuadGen over a span of 18 months.

Reliance Now offering 1GB 3G Data for Rs 149 in Maharashtra Circle

Reliance communications the largest dual technology operator with both GSM and CDMA operations has launched what may be the country’s cheapest high speed data pack till date for its CDMA subscribers in Maharashtra circle, with the per GB cost dipping as low as Rs.5 per GB.

The data pack cost is Rs. 149 and it gives 30GB EvDO Rev.A data with peak download speed of 3.1 Mbps with 30 day validity. The pack sounds a bit too good to be true so we got ourselves a Maharashtra circle CDMA OMH sim and recharged it with the Rs.149 pack and received an SMS confirmation that the number has been credited with 30GB high speed data (also verified by sending MBAL to 55333). We tested the speeds in an unlocked EvDO data card and it was in the range of 1 to 1.5 Mbps downlink.

The best part is that the plan has no restrictions on the type of device it is usable with, the subscriber is free to use it with a CDMA handset or with an unlocked EvDO data card. Rcom does not charge additionally for data usage in roaming, which means if you can land yourself a CDMA OMH sim from Maharashtra circle and use it in an unlocked data card you could use it in any circle on Rcom network and enjoy the same low tariff. BSNL Now Offering 1GB 3G Data For Rs 68 with 10 Days Validity

Telecom PSU BSNL has launched a new prepaid data STV for its customers across all circles. The price of the data STV  is Rs 68 inclusive of taxes and it will offer 1 GB free data. The validity of the free data is 10 days and data charge after free data usage is 2p/10KB. Data STV 68 will be available from 1st April 2015 across all BSNL circles for a promotional period of 60 days.

Idea Launched 3G Services in Delhi

Idea Cellular, has launched its 3G services on 900 MHz spectrum band in Delhi circle.  The 3G launch in Delhi is a milestone achievement for Idea as it marks company’s first 3G network in a metro circle in India. With this, Idea’s 3G network has expanded to 12 major markets in India, in addition to 3G services through ICR arrangements with other telecom operators in 9 circles, enabling its 3G subscribers experience seamless connectivity pan-India (except Orissa).

Announcing the launch Mr. Ambrish Jain, Deputy Managing Director, Idea Cellular said, “With the 3G launch in Delhi, Idea has not only expanded its 3G footprint to 12 circles across the country, but has also become the only mobile operator to have seamless 3G network across the entire length and breadth of Northern India. The 900 MHz spectrum band is considered superior for transmission and propagation and this will allow Idea 3G subscribers in Delhi to experience better indoor connectivity for both voice and high-speed data services. Idea users will now have a better experience while accessing services like video telephony, mobile TV, video on demand, music downloads, online gaming, amongst many others. Idea’s 3G network infrastructure in Delhi circle will also enable the company to offer superior customer service delivery.

Idea’s network in Delhi region comprises of over 4,700 sites on 2G and over 5,000 hops on Microwave. The network is being modernised along with the addition of 3G sites, to cater to the future demand of mobile data services in the metro circle. Idea is also in the process of setting up world-class service centres in the Delhi NCR region to service the evolving mobile consumers.
