IITian tried to sell himself on Flipkart for 27 lakhs

image

While looking for a job as a product manager, a student from IIT Kharagpur puts himself on sale for Rs 27 lakh on Flipkart.

When applying for a job, the CV is probably one of the most important aspects. It can be a boring task to create one, but at the end, it all boils down to how you present yourself. Trying to add a bit of creative flair, a student from IIT Kharagpur named Aakash Neeraj Mittal found a unique way to apply for a vacancy. Hoping to land a job in Flipkart as a product manager, he tried to sell himself on the e-commerce site itself for Rs 27 lakh.

Mittal listed himself as a product and added his skills as the description. Harsh Bajaj, who was a junior to Mittal at IIT Kharagpur wrote on Quora, “A senior of mine used this really interesting way to make his resume for Flipkart by putting himself for sale on the online e-commerce giant! Literally tried to “sell himself.”

According to Bajaj, this is what Mittal wrote “When you are a 6-pointer and competing with best of the best minds of the country, you know how hard it is to land a job. You start doing some crazy and random stuff to stand out from the crowd. This is my resume for Flipkart’s APM Profile.”

While it’s sad that Mittal didn’t get any interview call from Flipkart, he still hopes his creativity can definitely cheer someone.

Xiaomi drops price of Mi 4 64GB variant from Rs 19,999 to Rs 17,999

“The limited-period price drop has now been made permanent”

Xiaomi had just announced a limited time price drop  for the 64GB variant of the Mi 4  in the country. The price was dropped from Rs 19,999 to Rs 17,999 for a day to mark the Chinese company’s first anniversary of Indian operations. But as soon the limited time period for which the price was dropped ended, Xiaomi announced that the price drop was being made permanent.

The Mi 4 64GB was launched for Rs 23,999 in the country and the latest price drop is the third for it. The device doesn’t feature 4G LTE connectivity, while some of its key rivals do, and that could be the reason why Xiaomi wants to give a shot in the arm to the its sales by dropping the price.

The Mi 4 comes with a 5-inch full HD display and is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor mated to 3GB of RAM. There is a 13MP primary camera present on board which gets coupled with an 8MP secondary camera. It runs MIUI 6 based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The smartphone puts forth a strong case in its favour if you can live without 4G LTE.

The 16GB variant recently got itself a price drop too and retails for Rs 14,999 these days.

Flipkart To Shutdown Website from September

Flipkart to go app only from September, say reports
It seems Flipkart’s app only test with Myntra has been going well. According to reports, the e-commerce leader is ready to go into an app-only model from September this year. Reports say that company CPO Punit Soni addressed employees in a town hall meeting last week, where he announced that Flipkart will be moving to the rumoured app only model. Myntra, which was earlier acquired by Flipkart, has already moved to this model for some months now.

Flipkart has said on multiple occasions that over 70% of its traffic is coming from mobile phones, which is why an app-only model makes sense for the company. The company has also been making efforts to draw consumers towards its app, with its app-only sales being the most significant of those efforts. Flipkart also recently added an image search option to its app. Through this, customers can click a picture and run it through the Flipkart database to search for products. The feature only applies to clothing right now though. Flipkart also allows users to search using bar codes, which is useful for buying books.

While there is no denying the fact that mobiles dominate the Internet traffic in India, how useful it is for Flipkart is yet to be seen. That said, Flipkart would of course have monitored Myntra’s performance after going app-only and if the rumours are true, it has decided that it is a safe move.

Flipkart added image search to find visually similar products in it’s Android App

image

Flipkart has introduced its new Image Search feature for its apps. This is uniquely designed for Flipkart’s fashion category and will allow you to search for visually similar products on Flipkart just by uploading a photo. This will let you find fashion products of same color, pattern or style on Flipkart, said the company.

You can also browse a range of similar products by tapping directly on the product. This will save time and also helps you to find exact dress you are looking for easily, instead of usual step-by-step navigation. The company said that it plans to use the in-built features such as camera and bring an offline-like experience with just a few clicks.

The Image Search feature is currently in beta and will be available soon through an app update. The company plans to introduce more such innovative features in the coming months.

Regarding the new feature, Flipkart’s Chief Product Officer Punit Soni, said:

Discovering a fashion product online varies from user to user and is more complex as compared to other categories. A lot of fashion purchase decisions are influenced by similar products seen by users. The image search feature provides a way to find similar products on Flipkart as well as reduces the search/ browsing time, making the overall product discovery and shopping experience simple.

This is in line with our ambition to create a very intuitive thoughtful mobile experience that is universally accessible to everybody, regardless of whether they use text or visuals to communicate with us.
