Vodafone Cuts 2G Data Rates Up to 80% For Prepaid and Postpaid Customers


Vodafone has announced a massive 80 percent price cut in data charges for prepaid and postpaid customers on 2G on a ‘pay as you go’ (PAYG) basis. Vodafone had earlier launched this scheme in circles Karnataka, UP West and Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, and now is rolling out in rest of the country. The new rates will be applicable from November 1, 2013.

After the discount, 2G data charges (on PAYG) have been reduced to 2p/10KB from 10p/10KB. These new PAYG rates are now same for both 2G and 3G customers. It may be recalled Vodafone had slashed 3G tariffs by 80 percent last year, bringing down data rates to 2p/10 KB from earlier 10p/per 10KB.

Moreover, Vodafone will charge a mobile internet customers at home rates when on roaming in the country.

Vodafone has been focussing on mobile Internet and educating current and potential users about the Internet usages. The company is also building content partnerships, simplifying pricing, educating retailers and offering choice to customer basis their interests and consumption patterns.

Vivek Mathur, Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone India says, “This 80% reduction in Mobile Internet charges for customers using 2G is an important step in our strategy to drive mobile internet and we are confident that this move will facilitate in faster adoption and better usage.”

Lenovo Announced Two New Android Yoga Tablets


Lenovo has officially announced two new Android tablets earlier today. Part of the new Android-powered Yoga tablet line-up (the company although has been using the same branding for notebooks), the tablets will go on sale starting later today in the US.

Packed in a magazine inspired design, the new Yoga tablets come with 8-inch and 10-inch displays, which feature 1280x800p resolution. The tablets are powered by 1.2GHz MT8125 quad-core processor (MT8389 quad-core processors for 3G models), and include 1GB of RAM, Android 4.2.2, kickstand and 16/ 32GB of internal storage. In addition, the tablets sport huge batteries, which can last 16-18 hours, claims Lenovo.

“Watching and discovering that people frequently use tablets in three main ways allowed us to break the mold on the current ‘sea of sameness’ designs, giving them a better way to read, browse, watch and interact with content,” said Liu Jun, senior vice president and president, Lenovo Business Group, Lenovo.

The company has also roped in Ashton Kutcher as their brand ambassador cum product engineer, who reportedly will work with Lenovo’s engineering teams around the world to develop and market the Yoga line of tablets by providing input and decision-making into design, specifications, software and usage scenarios.


“As consumers’ continue to demand innovative multimode designs we’re thrilled to have Ashton Kutcher on board with us to help further develop the immersive and complementary hardware and rich content

experience,” Jun added.

Asus Launched FonePad 7 Tablet priced at ₹ 17499


Asus today announced the launch of a new Android tablet in the Indian market. Part of the company’s FonePad series, Asus FonePad 7 has been priced at INR 17,499 and will be available in the coming days.

Originally introduced in September this year, Asus FonePad 7 features Android 4.2, dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor, 1GB of RAM, 3G and 7-inch 1280x800p display. This tablet also comes with voice-calling support, 5MP rear camera, 1.2MP front camera, and 3950 mAh battery.

In addition, Asus FonePad 7 packs 16GB of internal storage with microSD card slot and dual -front speakers with ASUS SonicMaster audio technology on the device.

The tablet will be competing with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 3G and Nexus 7 3G tablets in the country.

Spice Smart Flo Ivory 2 Mi-423 and Smart Flo Edge Mi-349 two Android Smartphone


Spice Smart Flo Ivory 2 Mi-423 and Smart Flo Edge Mi-349, two new Android smartphones from the Smart Flo series is now available in India from online retailer Saholic. The Smart Flo Ivory 2 Mi-423 is the successor of the Smart Flo Ivory Mi-450 that was launched back in May. It has a 4-inch (480 x 320 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). The Smart Flo Edge Mi-349 has a 3.5-inch (480 x 320 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz processor and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
