Sony India has announced the launch of its Xperia E4 dual smartphone in the Indian market. This budget Android phone was originally unveiled in February this year.

Priced at INR 12,490, the Sony Xperia E4 dual will go on sale beginning March 17 in Sony Stores and other major retailers across the country.

Sony Xperia E4 dual succeeds the company’s Xperia E3 smartphone in the Indian market, which is currently retailing around INR 9,000. There is no word on when Sony plans to release the single-SIM version of the E4 in the country.

To remind you, the Xperia E4 sports a 5-inch qHD IPS display and is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor. The phone also comes with 5MP rear camera with LED flash, 2MP front shooter, 2300 mAh battery, and microSD card slot. In addition, Sony has included 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, Android 4.4.4 and dual-SIM connectivity in the phone.

According to Sony, Xperia E4 dual will be available in Black and White colour options.

Sony will have a hard time getting buyers for the E4, as it packs almost the same specifications as Moto E (2nd Gen) smartphone and the latter is available for almost half the price.

Sony Xperia Z4 image and Specifications Leaked before Launch in MWC 2015

With Mobile World Congress less than a month away, more and more information about upcoming handsets has started to trickle out. We saw a plenty of new information about the Samsung Galaxy S6 today, and now it’s the turn of Sony’s flagship smartphone.

An anonymous Chinese Weibo user has uploaded photos of what he claims is the front panel of Sony Xperia Z4. While it resembles the Xperia Z3, there are a few noticeable changes. It seems the company has swapped the front-facing camera and sensor holes on the panel, indicating improvements in the selfie camera.

The bezel on the cover also seems a little thinner, perhaps the company wants to accommodate a larger screen — something previous reports have suggested — without increasing the size of the phone by much.

From what we’ve heard so far, the Sony Xperia Z4 is likely to sport a 5.5-inch display with 2560×1440 screen resolution, and be powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. On the camera front, the handset is pegged to come with a 20.7-megapixel sensor at the back and a 4.8-megapixel wide-angle shooter upfront. Other features include a 3,420mAh battery powering the phone, and IP68 water and dust resistance.

It is all but confirmed that the company will be launching a flagship handset at Mobile World Congress. The company moved to a 6-month update cycle from a typical one-year period last year. It also dropped the price of several of its premium handset in India last month, hinting that a new phone is on the way.

Sony Willing To Sell Mobile Business:Report

image

After the Sony hack scandal, a revival of business is a looming topic of discussion among executives of the company. And now the leadership hurdle at Sony is thinking of selling or joint venturing with another company, with respect to it’s money losing verticals like the mobile and TV operations at Sony.

Reuters reports that Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai and his top mates are now open to options for such a business proposal. Sony’s mobile business consists of the popular Xperia series.

“Sony management recognises that no business is forever. Although no deals are on the table, every segment now needs to understand that Sony can exit businesses”, an anonymous source told the publication.

The report also states that Hirai threw caution in the air at Las Vegas only. “Electronics in general, along with entertainment and finance, will continue to be an important business. But within that there are some operations that will need to be run with caution – and that might be TV or mobile, for example,” he said.

Sony has reportedly forecasted a net loss for 230 billion yen for this quarter. It all plans to suspend dividend payments for the first time, and the company attributes this fallout to deep smartphone losses.

Even in India, the company has announced a 14 percent cut in prices of all Xperia smartphones, sales figures.

Analysts feel that in order for Sony to revive, the company will have to indulge in drastic reforms and exits. Sony has been struggling to compete with Apple and Samsung, and are expecting a 180 billion yen impairment charge for its mobile phone business. Nokia was forced to sell its mobile phone business to Microsoft for the same stiff competitive market reasons. If Sony does sell off its mobile business, it will be interesting to see who takes over, and what becomes of the Xperia series.
