Micromax-backed Yu’s first smartphone Yureka is all set to go on sale today via Amazon India. The company will be putting up 10,000 units on sale in a model similar to Xiaomi, and here are some of the steps you will need to follow to get your hands on a handset.
Only those who registered for the sale earlier will be eligible to buy the smartphone tomorrow. Registrations closed on December 24, a day earlier because of overwhelming number of registrations. “We saw unprecedented response with over three lakh registrations. Registrations were to be open till December 25. However, owing to the mega response they had to be closed a day earlier,” Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma said.
The sale is set to kick off at 2:00PM on Amazon India today, and the company advices you be online in advance. It also recommends you save your payment options in your Amazon account to initiate a quick checkout. Once the smartphone is available, you will need to quickly add it to your shopping cart and you will then only have 15 minutes to pay for the smartphone.
As mentioned above, 10,000 units will be available, and more than three lakh users have registered for the sale. There is every chance that the smartphone will fly off the shelves in a matter of seconds, but that isn’t the end of the sale. Unlike Xiaomi’s flash sales where it is all over the moment Flipkart runs out of stocks, in Yureka’s sale once users have added the 10,000 units to their cards, the rest will be asked to join a “Waitlist.”
The Waitlist essentially gives users a small chance to get their hands on the device. So if a buyer fails to complete payment for a Yureka within the assigned 15 minutes, it will be removed from his/her cart and will be available for users on the Waitlist. Those users will be notified about the availability of a unit, and will have three minutes to add it to their carts and will again have only 15 minutes for checkout.
The Waitlist too only has a limited number of slots, and in case you don’t get the option, the company advices you to “keep refreshing every few minutes till the end of the Sale to see if the Waitlist becomes available.” There is however a small catch here — the Waitlist option will only be available for users on computers and won’t be visible for those logging in using their mobile devices. Lastly, a person will only be able to buy one Yureka handset only.
To recap on the specifications, the Yu Yureka sports a 5.5-inch HD IPS display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with 64-bit capability and paired with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone also features 16GB internal storage, microSD card support, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 2,500mAh battery. On the software front, it runs on CyanogenMod OS 11 based on Android KitKat.
