OnePlus Upcoming Own Android ROM Named Oxygen OS ,To be Introduced on Feb 12

OnePlus on Friday announced that it is naming its upcoming Android firmware as Oxygen OS. Already released in Alpha for the One smartphone, the Oxygen OS will be installed on all future OnePlus devices.

The company has not shared any specifics about the firmware as this point, but has promised to reveal more on February 12. The company had earlier promised that the stable version of its self-built AOSP-based firmware will be released for One sometime in Feb. The firmware is expected to be customisable and will not include any gimmicky features.

“We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what this ROM means to us and our fans. We realized that, like everything we do, our true goal is to make the product that we ourselves would want to use—to make great technology more accessible for everyone. With our ROM, that means software that is open, customizable, and free of bloat and unnecessary features,” OnePlus wrote in a post.

To remind you, OnePlus’s own Android firmware was supposed to be introduced with OnePlus 2 smartphone, but after the legal disputes with Cyanogen, which currently provides software for OnePlus One, in India, the company decided to pick up the pace and release the ROM earlier.
