“ASUS has quietly launched the Fonepad 8 in India for Rs 13,999 on Flipkart

ASUS seems to have struck a chord with the Indian buyers of budget tablets with its Fonepad range of tablets. It has now quietly launched the Fonepad 8 in India with a price tag of Rs 13,999 on Flipkart . The Fonepad 8 was announced back in June 2014 globally, and features an 8-inch IPS display panel with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels.

The tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat with ZenUI and we believe a Lollipop update should come too in the first half of 2015. The Fonepad 8 is powered by a 1.33GHz quad-core Intel Z3530 processor which is mated to a 2GB RAM. The internal storage capacity of the same stands at 16GB and it is expandable by another 64GB with the help of a microSD card.

The tablet offers a 5-megapixel camera at the rear and a 2-megapixel camera up front. Connectivity has always been on the better side of things when it comes to the Fonepad range and the latest launch isn’t an exception either. It features dual-SIM card slots with support for voice calling, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS. A 3,950mAh battery is what the device derives the juice from. Priced at Rs 13,999, the tablet comes across as a value-for-money proposition.

At this price, its primary rival will be the Nexus 7 (32GB, Wi-Fi only) which is retailing for Rs 15,999 these days. However, the Nexus 7 misses out on calling abilities and 3G but has the strong software support from Google goes in its favour. The Fonepad 8 looks like a well-built device and is available is White-Golden and Black colour schemes in India. If you are an HDFC card holder, you can get yourself a discount of another 10 percent as per the offer running presently.
