Reliance Jio Launched ‘Jionet’ HighSpeed WiFi Broadband Service in Gujarat

Four years after getting its license, Reliance is widely expected to roll out its Jio LTE services this year. The company has soft launched its services at Gujarat, which could be an indication that a launch is not that far off.

At the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show, Reliance has a booth set up offering information about Jio. Its high-speed Wi-Fi broadband service called ‘Jionet’ was soft launched at the trade show, and all attendees are being allowed to try out the service for free as well, Economic Times reports. According to, there are about 100 volunteers at the show helping people connect to the service, and around 250 routers have been setup at the venue. Users connected to the Wi-Fi service are reportedly getting speeds of at least 10Mbps. In addition to the trade show, Reliance is also offering free Wi-Fi connection at Sardar Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.

Towards the end of last year, a Reliance Jio preview website gave a glimpse at the kind of plans that will be on offer. Reliance Industries has invested Rs 70,000 crore in 4G LTE high-Internet-speed services, including Rs 24,000 crore on airwaves. It currently owns spectrums in the 2300MHz band in all 22 circles for providing telecom services and 1800MHz band in 14 circles. They have recently been on a hiring spree, and have roped in former Google executives including Neeraj Bansal and Nikhil Rungta, as well as Rainer Deutschmann from Deutsche Telekom to head major product and service innovations.
