How To Disable “Blue Tick” In WhatsApp

Earlier this month, WhatsApp received a backend update that added the infamous ‘blue ticks’ to conversations. The blue double check marks indicated that a message had been read by the recipient, much to the horror and dismay of users around the world.
To remedy this, WhatsApp another update which makes the new featUnder Settings > Privacy, you can now choose whether to enable or disable to read receipts. Disabling read receipts works both ways – you won’t be able to see the blue ticks either. However, read receipts are always sent for group messages – with the blue ticks appearing to next to your message when all participants in the group have read it.
To get the new WhatsApp (version 2.11.44) you’ll need to download the APK from its website. It is expected to be available as an automatic update via Google Play soon.
